What’s missing in Dealing with Anxiety and Panic Attacks? It’s not what you think!
In the early 90’s, as I was battling depression (16 years ), it seemed as if anxiety and panic attacks were my best friends. Maybe, you can relate! My experience in battling anxiety and panic attacks felt as if being unclothed in front of strangers and beaten by them for no apparent reason. I battled anxiety and panic attacks for many years. It came as a package all snuggled inside depression.
As I began to work out of depression, I came to the root-cause of my anxiety and panic attacks. I was totally surprised once it revealed itself. Almost all of my clinical and academia studies, at that time, either did not mention the root-cause or it was glossed over. A recent search on “over coming anxiety and Panic Attacks” looked like a search on the “Best Chocolate cake Recipe.” Many various solutions were offered along with short, mid and extensive video presentations. While I skim read most of the headlines, including video headlines, I did not observe any titles revealing the “root cause” of anxiety and panic attacks. Not surprising! It was not evident back in the early 90’s either.
The soldier on the front line of battle can tell you exactly how fierce the battle is raging and what is needed (root cause) to defeat the enemy. I have found, and so have many others that I have been privileged to assist to over come anxiety and panic attacks, the root cases to be – FEAR. FEAR has torment. In the book of 2John 4:18, it reads “there is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth the out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” Wow! What a verse!
Symptoms Therapy that deals with symptoms only, such as breathing, exercise, counting medication, etc, are only a band aid approach and not “root cause” focused. If a roof is leaking, and a tarp is placed over the point of entry, the root cause is the hole in the roof that has not been repaired. The problem is that the leak in the roof is not being properly addressed. Another similar illustration: a leaking water hose is repaired with tape, instead of repairing it by dealing with the “root Cause”. Anxiety and panic attacks must be dealt with at the fear level and not the symptom level.
At Abundant Life Christian Counseling Services and Training Center, we can help by getting to the root cause and eliminate the FEAR. In so doing, panic and anxiety attacks will stop.
